Meet our 2022 Upskill Challenge Third Place winner!

Cindy needed this challenge to reset her healthy habits and create a lifestyle that serves her and her purpose. The goal was simple; create a sustainable routine that gives her more energy and possibly helps her lose a little weight – without focusing on the numbers.

She certainly achieved that over the last 8-weeks, meal prep and planning was a game-changer for her and helped her to drop 4.6kg of body fat!

Keep reading to learn about her journey with 23W.

How long have you been working with 23W?

Since mid 2020 I think… Between lockdowns

What got you started on this journey?

I needed a reset, to take care of my health.

What was your biggest challenge at the start?

I have a stack of knee issues and previous gyms have focused on high/fast reps, and heavier weights that often result in poor technique and judgey coaches. So that approach sets me up to fail and wore me down.
My challenge was mentally being optimistic that this gym would be different.

What was your initial goal?

Honestly, to lose weight, take pressure off my knees so I can remain active and have adventures.

What result did you achieve?

I’m stronger and lighter and it’s sustainable!

How have you changed?

Meal prep planning is a game changer. For me, it’s about organised lunches.
I’ve also reset regarding alcohol intake. Too many extra calories too often. My sleep quality is better, which impacts energy levels.

What was your biggest challenge going through the process?

If I don’t plan the week, I become really grumpy with myself.

What were your biggest learnings?

When I have the right amount of protein, I don’t feel hungry. I really enjoy my breakfast, which is the same every day and I’m ok with that because it’s good fuel.

How would you describe your journey?

Slow and sustainable

What was it like working with the 23W and the other girls in the community?

I adore this crew.

The coaches have honestly never judged me for needing a modification. They believed me when I first outlined my injuries and surgeries. They check in and offer options. The options aren’t easy!

The classes are excellent. I mean there are good tunes, singing, laughing, occasional clapping and whooping. Mostly it’s a place where someone will spot you for that one more rep to push your weights.

What’s next for you?

I want to be part of the fabric of this community. I will keep building strength, setting goals, and aging well.

Anything else?

Thanks for being legends xx
