The After Hours Athlete: Why Evening Workouts Might Be Your Best Bet
By Ange Drake
As a fitness trainer who typically prefers getting my workouts done first thing in the day, I’ve recently jumped into a few sessions much later in the day than normal… and the results had it’s advantages!
At 23W, we offer a range of afternoon training times to meet the needs of our members, but if you are on the fence about making it out of the house once the sun goes down, here are a few benefits you might like to consider.Â
1.Well-Fueled Workouts
Firstly, being well-fueled is crucial for a productive workout session. By the afternoon, you’ve had most of your meals for the day, providing you with the necessary energy reserves to power through an intense workout. This means you can push harder and longer, making the most of your session without the sluggishness that sometimes accompanies early morning workouts.
Peak Performance Post-Sleep
After a full night’s sleep, your body is better recovered and at peak performance. Muscles are rested, and the mind is clear, allowing for better focus and coordination. This is essential whether you’re lifting weights, running on the treadmill, or engaging in a high-intensity interval training session.
3. A Great Way to Finish the Workday
Training in the PM is also a fantastic way to cap off the workday. It’s an effective method of releasing any stress or tension accumulated from the day’s tasks, resetting your mental state, and promoting relaxation before the evening.
4. Diverse Training Options
Moreover, the range of training options available in the afternoon is typically greater. Gyms are fully staffed, all classes are in full swing, and all equipment is ready for use. This variety not only keeps your workouts exciting but also provides the flexibility to try new things or switch up your routine.
5. Enhanced Social Interactions
Lastly, the social aspect of PM workouts can’t be overlooked. The gym tends to be more lively in the evening, making connecting with fellow members easier. These interactions often lead to better motivation, enjoyable conversations, and who knows, you might just make a new friend!
Regardless of your training time, remember consistency in your training and finding a schedule that sticks is your best option for you.
