23W Members Spotlight: JasminE

By Ange Drake

Jasmine, a recent mother as of the end of 2022, embarked on a transformative journey eight weeks ago to reclaim her personal health and wellness. Postpartum, she realised the need to shift her focus back onto her own needs. As she established a routine that allowed for personal time, Jasmine participated in a 6-week challenge that has marked the beginning of her fitness journey.

In these six weeks, Jasmine achieved remarkable results, losing 6.2 kg and reducing her body fat by 5.2%. She credits her success to becoming more conscious of her dietary choices, emphasising the importance of a high-protein diet and moderation rather than restriction. Her approach allowed her to enjoy treats without overindulgence and noted that a protein-rich breakfast curbed her cravings for unhealthy foods throughout the day.

Jasmine’s commitment extended beyond her diet. She learned the value of starting her day with breakfast to prepare herself for the day ahead.

Looking ahead, Jasmine sees this as only the beginning of her journey. She aims to become proficient in weightlifting, particularly improving her technique with the bar to minimise injury risks. Her story is not just about weight loss but about fostering a sustainable lifestyle change and community involvement, setting her up for continued success on her path to reaching her overall fitness goals. Check out her story below!

How long have you been working with 23W?

8 weeks.

What got you started on this journey?

I have felt like I’ve needed a change for some time now and after having my little one at the end of 2022, there was a huge change in mindset and focus. All my time and energy was spent on my little one and I was neglecting my own needs. Fast forward just over a year later and somewhat of a routine has been built allowing me to take back some time and focus a bit more on me.

What was your biggest challenge at the start?

Getting enough protein in my diet.

What was your initial goal?

Weight loss.

What result did you achieve?

6.2kg weight loss/5.2% body fat loss.

How have you changed?

I feel that I’m more conscious of what I am eating and how much, that being said I will still enjoy treats here and there but am mindful about the volume consumed.

What was your biggest challenge going through the process?

Making sure I had breakfast in the morning to ensure I was well set up for the day.

What were your biggest learnings?

I learnt that you don’t have to be on a restrictive diet to lose weight/mass. Everything can be enjoyed in moderation. I also learned that having a high protein breakfast in the morning reduced my cravings for unhealthy foods throughout the day.

How would you describe your journey?

I think my journey is only beginning, there are a lot of small milestones I need to hit before reaching my overall goal, and 8 weeks into my journey I feel like I’ve set myself up for success with the kickstarter challenge.

What was it like working with the 23W and the other girls in the community?

I have really enjoyed being part of the 23W community. The trainers are wonderful to chat with and any adjustments you need made based on your physical level or injuries are thought of on the spot so you can still have a solid workout that’s tailored to what your body needs or can handle on a given day.

I really enjoy the group atmosphere as everyone is so welcoming and I feel comfortable asking other members how to do something or what’s next if I’m not sure.

What’s next for you?

Whilst I will still continue working on my overall goal, I’d like to become more confident using the bar and lifting, I’d really like to master the technique so I’m confident that when I lift heavy, there will be less risk of injuring myself.
